mom and the internet

When the US pioneered the use of internet as a part of a military project in 1958, little did it fathom that it will be such a big hit commercially as it is now. Today internet users account for 20.5% of the total World population. Now that’s what is called a revolution.

Internet’s story in India is no less revolutionary especially when i sit back and think about how my dear mom has come in terms with it. Only a year back, if i would have suggested my mom to send me an e-mail with my degree marksheets as a scanned attachment, i would have received the same blank glare as Newton would have when he first talked about falling apple and gravity.

But that's not the case today....that however is a separate thing as how amazingly funny and at times hillariously frustrating this learning experience have been for her and for her teachers : read family members in this subject. And beware, these funny incidents are in plenty even today..as there are always new features coming up in the IM or a mail browser which my mom keeps exploring..keeping all of us on our toes :)

You won't believe it, how satisfying it is at times when after a 2 hours of nerve breaking chat/voice-chat interaction over the India US network; me and my mother gets successfull in setting up a new web camera, or a speaker woofer setup, or a photo sharing session at her end :)
Things gets more challenging when she would accidently mute her speakers, and then we have to manage the complete show on text messaging!!! Probably that's one way of her's to teach me good patience :)

These days, she has got a new fancy setup to get her hands dirty on. after months of debate, she has launched her use of internet usage skills into managing a matrimonial web site account for me:) and gosh!!!for me it has become a full time maintainence work similar to putting TV child viewing locks for her on that web-site. :) don't dare to laugh!!!! it's so loving to see her have a satisfied smile when she successfully saves a profile search results and mails me the link!! My God!! i could imagine her grabbing her glases and taking a comfortable 5 minutes to settle on a computer and then with meticulous care punching in the site user-id and password (which i know, she would always read it from her diary to not to make a mistake though she knows it by heart now) and then how happy she is when she gets a list generated for her to send me... that's however is a completely different aspect that none from that list is worthy enough for all her effort.

Love you ma!! and keep surfing!
