London Diaries - 1

It took me 2 visits of around 3 months each to make me love this great city called London!! Or probably, it took my all those 5 months, to become a person fit for London :-)

This is my third visit to London, and now after getting in terms with it; i could now say that it is undoubtedly one of the greatest cities in the world. There is a unique charm in the city...a tingling buzz in it's streets...a musical rhythm in it's commute...a serene peace in it's river side walkways...an aristocratic aura in it's mannerism...a pricey satisfaction in it shopping...a calming solitude in it's weather..a freakish mischief in it's youth..a hardened determination in it's business...and list goes on and on.

The two words which are quite the way of life in London are - sorry and cheers! it's these two words that demonstrates the civility and courtesy of the londoners. And i bet..stay there for a month and you would definitely pick up these two words..and it will be soon enough that they would become almost 50% of your general conversation with people around.

Talk of London..and you can't miss talking aboute it's underground trains - the ubiquitous TUBE : the cheapest and the convenient..and dare i say the liveliest way to travel in the city. "tube" is a great experience in itself..and the sooner you become a pro in routing your way on the underground map, the better your life becomes. The best thing about the tube is it's an entertainment hub in itself packed with the funniest announcements from the train drivers, the maestro art on the walls of the tube stations, the craziest hairstyles of your fellow commuters, the exotic music instruments played by the tube station performers!! Tube lines run as blood veins in the London's transport system...and they definitely are the life providers! You get an Oyster and you are all set to explore London.

The kind of mandatory sight seeing in London is quite a worth - Tower bridge, London Eye, Westminster- Houses of Parliament, Thames cruise, Buckhingam palace, Trafalgar Square, Open Bus rides, Canary Wharf, Kew Garden, Hampstead Heath............ the good/bad thing for a tourist in London is that even after you finishing off your little black travel book recommendations, you will always have more and more of London to explore. As they say, every single street, every single tube-station and every single corner of the london is worth exploring!!!

London is the city of art. I couldn't think of any other city which is so brilliant in using it's cultural inheritance for tourism. The museums and the castles are so vividly advertised and promoted that you would surely churn out your good kitty of pounds on visiting them. Tate Modern, Madam Taussad's wax museum, National History Museum, the British Museum, Victoria and Albert, British Tate, Imperial War Museum, London Transport Museum, the Tower, The windsor Castle, Baynard's Castle, Montifchet's castle....and believe me the list is endless. i believe, that you can spend your lifetime exploring all the museums and castles of England, and still i am sure you will miss out on few. Same goes with theaters and orchestras!!

London is also the city of pubs! it's sometimes seems to be some raditional festival, when every thursday evening you could see people literally overflowing from inside the pubs towards the streets with their huge bear mugs. You could never miss smelling coffee in the morning air and bear in the evening aroma.

London + Shopping - is an out of world experience!! Though it's quite a costly affair...still, it's worth every single penny rather pound (as, what would a penny get you on oxford street - not even a restroom as that itself could ask for 5 pounds!! ). The best things to buy in London are perfumes, clothes and accessories and how could you miss the cosmetics!!! The class and the sophistication you get here is nowhere..absolutely nowhere else.

Talking of food...it's fish and chips all the way!! or head to the Covent garden for a great meal. Not to miss my alltime favourite Krispy Kreame's glazed doughnuts hmmm yummy!!!! The nightlife in London is energetic and a little over the top.

The best thing about London is that it's a tourist friendly place for single tourists and people are usually very helpful if you are lost. And to wrap off my blog, all i would say is that yes!! i am simply in love with this great city - LONDON!
